Last updated . Every result on Smart Financial Calc is an estimate that depends on the numbers and assumptions you enter. This page explains what that means for each kind of calculator.
All calculators
- Results are only as good as the inputs. Each calculator lists its assumptions and what it leaves out; read them before relying on a result.
- Results are rounded for display. Other tools, lenders or agencies may use different rounding or conventions and get slightly different figures.
- Calculations are checked against cited sources and automated tests (see the methodology), but mistakes are still possible. If you find one, please report it.
- Nothing on the site is professional advice, and using it does not create any advisory relationship.
Finance and investing
- Projections are arithmetic, not predictions. Returns, interest rates, inflation and growth rates are assumptions you choose; real results vary and can be negative.
- Fees, taxes and costs are included only where the calculator asks for them.
- The calculators do not recommend any investment, account type, product or provider.
Loans and mortgages
- Results are not a quote, pre-approval, offer or lending decision. A lender’s figures depend on its own underwriting, fees, payment dates, day-count conventions, rounding, insurance and escrow.
- APR estimates are for comparison and education. They are not the disclosures a lender must give you; for a US mortgage, the Loan Estimate and Closing Disclosure from your lender are the official figures.
- Property taxes, insurance and homeowners’ association dues are whatever you enter; they change over time.
Taxes
- The site does not give tax advice and cannot be used to prepare or file a return. Tax rates you enter are your assumptions.
- Tax rules, brackets and contribution limits change, often every year, and depend on where you live. Check the current figures with the tax authority, such as the IRS in the United States, or with a tax professional.
Health and fitness
- Health and fitness calculators give population-level estimates for adults. They are not medical advice and cannot diagnose any condition.
- Measures such as BMI and estimated calorie needs describe averages across large groups and can be wrong for an individual, for example for athletes, older adults, and people with some medical conditions.
- They are not intended for children, or during pregnancy. Talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before changing your diet or exercise because of a result.
Dates, times and conversions
- Time-zone results rely on the time-zone database in your browser. Governments sometimes change daylight-saving rules at short notice, so check important times against an official source.
- Unit conversions use exact defined factors where they exist, then round for display. For legal, trade, medical or safety-critical measurements, use the certified instrument or official table.
Home and everyday estimates
Quantities for paint, flooring, concrete and similar projects are estimates. Product coverage, waste and packaging vary, so follow the manufacturer’s guidance and allow a margin before buying.
